Day and night in NYC

Day

New York, the city that never sleeps, as they call it. Times Square, filled with tourists awaiting their perfect shot. Billboards upon billboards shine upon the skyscrapers. High vibrant colours The vivid smell coming from the underground subway, almost smelling like gas, fills the streets that you can almost taste it.

New York, known as the city that never sleeps, nothing could be more true. Every corner turned, a new universe evolves in its own way. Floors built upon floors, creating different architectures within every high standing building. The smell lingers from the greasy hot dog stands pinned on almost every corner, impatient tourists queueing up awaiting their famous New York hot dogs. Screeching cars slamming their brakes bursting eardrums as the traffic moves along as slow as a snail. Everyone brought here for their own different reasons.

Night

Light polluting the air for miles, with vivid stars blurred in the sky. Skyscrapers, touching the sky as if it is a roof overtop of them. Doors to theatres beginning to open in Broadway.

Sunset, now fills the streets with pure darkness as if somebody turned a flashlight off. Lights start to light up on the tall standing buildings looking like they are floating in the atmosphere. Underground subway rattling as it travels beneath the rugged streets feeling like an earthquake.

Hi Anika
A few things to consider:
You need a 50/50 split between your then and now.
Consider how to focus on sensory details, how can you make your reader feel as if they are actually there. Don’t just tell me about things.
Be careful with you use of figurative language. Make sure that it is controlled and deliberate rather than just there because it sounds better than just listing features. For example the subway.
Cheerio
