Official Essay:

Dictatorship

In the novel “Animal Farm” by George Orwell dictatorship is a recurring key theme. This is a memorable theme in the novel because it happens all throughout the book. Another idea why this is memorable theme in the novel is because it relates back to the Russian revolution. Orwell also shows Dictatorship in the novel by his techniques and his language features throughout the whole novel.

Dictatorship is shown all throughout the novel by Napoleon. He shows his dictatorship by firstly getting squealer on his side so then he can convince the other animals that they should follow him too. At first, Napoleon was working with Snowball to lead the farm. After Napoleon wanted to lead by himself and change the commandments, Snowball didn’t want to. Napoleon then exiled Snowball off of the farm showing that Napoleon only cares about himself and his leadership. This is defined as being dictatorship because a dictator is someone who gains power and total greed to no limits. Napoleon can gain leaders because most of the animals on animal farm are clueless and can not read or write. When Napoleon chose to change parts of the seven commandments, most of the other animals didn’t even notice the change. Overall napoleon is a greedy cruel dictator throughout the whole novel.

Napoleon is shown as a dictator in the novel where as in the Russian revolution Joseph Stalin was shown as the dictator. This is a significant connection between the novel and the real world and why it’s a memorable theme. they were both oppressive and greedy leaders who only did anything for themselves. In the Russian revolution Joseph was an evil leader who gained followers, He stated that “Death is the solution to all problems.” This shows Joseph does not care for anything but himself and his decisions. Napoleon says “No animal shall kill any other animal without cause.” This commandment was changed by Napoleon when he started to show his true colours to the other animals on the farm. Dictatorship truly is a memorable moment in the novel because it can relate back to the real world.

George Orwell shows dictatorship through the language and techniques he uses in the novel. When I think of this novel I think of dictatorship. Orwell using writing and language features to show Napoleons greed and cruelty all throughout the book. This sticks out to me because without Orwell using the techniques he did Dictatorship wouldn’t be as memorable as it turned out to be. He also makes this memorable by using this theme throughout the whole book and showing it on only one character (Napoleon). Orwell overall used his language features and techniques in a way that the readers would remember the book based upon the theme.

In conclusion, Dictatorship is a strong, prominent and memorable theme in the novel “Animal Farm” by George Orwell. Without dictatorship the novel would not have been the same in my opinion. Although Dictatorship is not a good thing, Orwell uses it in a catchy and technical way.
